Anne Wright – Yoga & Holistic Therapies

Anne Wright runs Scaravelli-inspired yoga classes in Buckfastleigh and nearby villages, improving posture, flexibility and wellbeing in a friendly, relaxed setting. Suitable for all abilities, with weekly classes and workshops, plus access to affordable holistic therapies such as Shiatsu and acupuncture to support personal growth.

Art @ The Valiant Solider

Art @ The Valiant Soldier showcases the works of five talented artists during the Devon Open Studios event in September 2025. Visitors can explore a diverse range of artistic expressions within the historic setting of the museum.

A small, welcoming Methodist congregation meeting at the chapel in the grounds of Buckfast Abbey, open daily; visitors' prayer requests are remembered in Sunday worship. We host a weekly Wednesday coffee morning at the Valiant Soldier in Buckfastleigh and activities at The Moor Imagination Collective, with occasional activities in Scoriton.

Buckfastleigh Mothers' Union

Buckfastleigh Repair Café meets monthly at the Moor Imagination Centre, where volunteers help fix household items, electronics, clothing and bikes, cutting waste and costs. New volunteers are welcome for repairs, fundraising, publicity or the welcome desk – a friendly, community‑minded way to support sustainability.

Buckfastleigh Royal British Legion

Buckfastleigh Royal British Legion is the local branch of the UK’s leading armed forces charity, supporting veterans, serving personnel and their families. They organise remembrance services and town commemorations, including at Holy Trinity Church and the War Memorial, with welcoming community gatherings, and all are invited to attend and take part.

Buckfastleigh Town Council

Buckfastleigh Town Council is the official local authority for the town, supporting residents, community groups and local initiatives. Christian Community Church

Founded in 1922, the Christian Community Church is a movement renewing religious life today, with the Communion Service at its heart. All are welcome at Sunday services at 10:00am. Guest accommodation is available for visitors (minimum stay three nights).

Devon Wildlife Trust

Devon Wildlife Trust is dedicated to protecting Devon’s wildlife and natural habitats through conservation, advocacy and education, with over 50 nature reserves and a wide range of projects across the county. They welcome people of all ages to get involved through volunteering, public events and educational activities.

Dragon Sanctuary

Dragon Sanctuary is a community venue at 34 Bossell Road, Buckfastleigh, hosting spiritual and arts events including Kirtan with Leo and Sundara, true storytelling with Leo Sofer, and Taizé singing. Most take place in the evenings, often with time for tea and conversation. No prior experience is needed for Kirtan.

Flowstrong

Flowstrong offers inclusive Pilates-based fitness classes to help people of all abilities improve strength, flexibility, posture and confidence. Led by instructor Lucie at Ashburton Arts Centre every Monday, 7:45 to 8:45pm, sessions focus on core strength, mobility and balance, with private 1-to-1 options also available.

Open to all on the last Thursday each month, 6:30–8:00pm; refreshments provided, small donation welcome.

Holne Village Hall Committee

Through the Share Shed – A Library of Things, its weekly van in Buckfastleigh offers 350+ items to borrow and runs Repair Cafés and skill-sharing workshops, with Lottery-funded expansion, smart lockers, and support for low-income families.

Orchard Millennium Green

Orchard Millennium Green is a much‑loved community green space in Buckfastleigh, cared for by local volunteers and hosting events such as WoolFest, Fun Day, Water Day and Apple Day. The TeaHut opens on event days, and new volunteers and stallholders are warmly welcomed.

Patchwork Quilt Challenge

Patchwork Quilt Challenge is a friendly Buckfastleigh group making quilts from reclaimed fabric to donate to the SCBU at Torbay Hospital and Exeter Refugee Support. All skill levels are welcome at St Luke’s Church, usually Saturdays 10am–3pm; bring a packed lunch, refreshments provided.

Purl and a Pint

Purl and a Pint is a friendly knitting and crochet group meeting at The King’s Arms, Buckfastleigh, on the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, 7:30–9:30pm. All levels welcome to work on projects, share ideas and learn new skills, with seasonal themes, colour inspiration and plenty of encouragement.

Running Dog Theatre

Scoriton & Buckfastleigh Twinning Association

Scoriton & Buckfastleigh Twinning Association fosters friendship with Fontaine-Henry in Normandy through exchange visits, hosting and year-round cultural get-togethers. Activities include fundraising coffee mornings, French-themed stalls and ceilidhs, with a highlight being the August bank holiday visit featuring a traditional Ram Roast, ceilidh and the Scoriton Flower Show.

Designed to build strength, resilience and inner calm in a friendly, inclusive setting, they also partner with local organisations.

St Benedict's Catholic Church

St Benedict’s Catholic Church in Chapel Street, Buckfastleigh, is a welcoming worshipping community served by Fr Francis Straw of Buckfast Abbey. Saturday Mass is at 5pm with tea and coffee, plus a quiet children’s area. The church hosts seasonal services, prayer groups and concerts, and supports Buckfastleigh Foodbank.

St Luke’s Church

St Luke’s Church in Buckfastleigh welcomes all for Holy Communion, Morning Worship and seasonal services, alongside concerts and social events. Its Friday Foodbank and café offer essential supplies and advice, with visiting agencies providing weekly support.

Valiant Mummers

The Valiant Mummers are a Buckfastleigh amateur performance group bringing traditional mummers’ plays and historical mystery dramas to local stages, with folk theatre around Christmas and Easter (including the Chester Mystery Play 'Noah and the Flood'). New members are welcome—no experience needed—whether to act, sing or support the show.

Woolly Nanas

Woolly Nanas hosts a welcoming woolcraft programme at The Wool Hub, 1 Fore Street, Buckfastleigh. Weekly drop-in sessions Monday to Friday cover felting, weaving, spinning, knitting, crochet and a sock club, with special workshops and seasonal events that support sustainable craft and community engagement.
