The Moor Imagination Centre welcomes the five-piece sisterhood Temple of Shibboleth for a richly imaginative night of music and play. Their sound draws on Canterbury-tinged prog (think Soft Machine), jazz-pop in the vein of Steely Dan, lyrical folk inspired by Joni Mitchell, and flashes of pure improvisation. The Canterbury scene, born in the late 1960s, is known for its adventurous blend of jazz harmony and progressive rock – a fitting touchstone for this band’s curious, colourful palette.

They bring their Days of the Week show – a soul-fed ritual for the home – performing their self-titled debut album in a way that’s humorous, deep and cheerfully absurd. Think: jazz gig meets circus dreamscape. Expect a playful performance with a circus influence that may have you dancing, thinking and singing along – “quirky, dreamy, adventurous, heartfelt and soul-fed connection for all our beginning, middle and end times.”

Temple of Shibboleth are: Billie Bottle (voice, keyboards), Viv Goodwin-Darke (voice, flute, recorder), Roz Harding (alto sax, recorder, voice), Anna Batson (bassoon, voice) and Jo Meikle (drums, percussion).

Between them, they’ve played some of the UK’s best-known jazz and arts stages including Ronnie Scott’s, the EFG London Jazz Festival, The Jazz Cafe, King’s Place, Camden People’s Theatre, Teatro Rossini, Vortex Jazz Club and the Hallé Women in Jazz Festival. Their music has featured on Jazz FM and BBC 6 Music, and they’ve performed live on air for BBC Radio 3 (Late Junction and In Tune) and BBC Radio 4.
