Volunteers needed at Holne Community Shop

Holne Community Shop seeks new volunteers to keep this much-loved community hub, now in its 15th year, serving Holne, Scoriton and visitors to the Moor. Flexible 3-hour shifts between 11 am and 5 pm, with familiarisation and support, no experience needed.

Holne Community Shop is now in its 15th year, and we’re looking for a few more friendly faces to join the volunteer team. The shop serves Holne, Scoriton and the surrounding hamlets, as well as walkers and visitors to Dartmoor. Like many community-run village shops across Devon, it’s a proper local lifeline — a place to pick up essentials and share a chat.

What’s involved:

  • Open: seven days a week.
  • Shifts: mainly 3 hours, between 11am–5pm.
  • How often: once a week or once a fortnight — whatever suits you.
  • No experience needed: full familiarisation and ongoing support provided.

Our pool of volunteers has shrunk lately, mostly because people have moved away, so a couple of new helpers would make a big difference. It’s a lovely way to gain confidence and skills, keep the shop thriving for the village, and meet neighbours old and new. Come and give it a try — you’ll be warmly welcomed.

Interested? If you think you’d enjoy helping for a few hours now and then, we’d love to hear from you.
